15/01/2008Telstar takes over LMC Medical Components GmbH to become the leading designer & fitter of operating theatres in northern Europe

Following the recent takeover of German company LMC Medical Components GmbH, Telstar is now the leading designer and fitter of operating theatres in Northern Europe, with a 30% market share, implementing advanced technology for designing and installing laminar flow operating theatres and offering a ventilation system that minimises the risk of postoperative infections.

Telstar has introduced this new technology, developed at its centres in Terrassa (Barcelona), Baarn (the Netherlands) and, most recently, Bad Homburg (Germany), to the Spanish market. This ventilation system for operating theatres minimises the penetration of air contaminated with bacteria or viral particles into the operating area, one of the main causes of postoperative infections that commonly occur during operations in hospitals and which, according to a study commissioned by the Dutch government (Report Dutch Healthcouncil – TNO report 99 BBI-R014 – Maars 2005), are estimated to result in expenses of 3,600 euro per patient.

By developing this technology, Telstar is contributing to the safety and prevention criteria set forth in the mandatory national regulations of Northern European countries, which will be applied in Spain in coming years in line with the demands of future European regulations in this area.

Telstar has strengthened its position in the Northern European hospital market through its takeover of Dutch company LUWA BV in 2006 and the recent takeover of LMC Medical Components, the operating theatre design and production division of Luwa GmbH, which officially took effect on 10 January 2008.
