26/08/2010Telstar presents the only compact lab freeze dryer with integrated pre-freezing, primary drying & secondary drying processes

With an 8-liter condensation capacity, LyoQuest represents the latest in freeze dryers for R&D labs.

Telstar will be unveiling ‘LyoQuest', the latest in its line of laboratory freeze dryers, which has a condensation capacity of 8 liters and can carry out pre-freezing, primary drying, and secondary drying processes. This new innovation is the only bench-top laboratory freeze dryer on the market that combines this breadth of functionality into a single unit so that users can perform complete cycles on a range of sample containers (vials, trays, ampoules, and flasks) using the same piece of equipment.

In addition to being versatile, LyoQuest also allows users to create recipes comprising time, temperature and vacuum control thanks to its integrated PLC control system. This easy-to-use device includes a touch-screen HMI with an intuitive menu and mimic diagram. The ‘LyoLogger' monitoring software enables connection of the unit to a PC so collected data can be transferred to files for analysis using Microsoft Excel. The software also makes it possible to view graphs showing the pressure, condenser temperature, and, if working with a chamber, product and tray temperature as well. The innovative design of this freeze dryer results in an extremely compact unit with large condensation capacity. The LyoQuest's ice condenser is made from AISI 316L stainless steel and includes an automatic defrosting function for quick and easy deicing. Furthermore, its design enables many product formats to be pre-frozen by the device, without the need for an additional freezer.

The LyoQuest freeze dryer is specially designed for labs in research and development departments of universities, hospitals, scientific institutes, biotechnology centers, pharmaceutical companies, and food companies.

Telstar Hexascreen MiniBioreactor

Also at Analytica China, Telstar will be presenting the Telstar Hexascreen mini-bioreactor for animal cell culture screening studies on a scale which is suitable for R&D. This device makes it possible to carry out several simultaneous tests on cell culture.

This is the first mini-bioreactor on the market which can carry out animal cell culture trials and experiments on a scale of 10 to 15 ml, with the ability to run up to six cultures simultaneously. It includes a workstation that accommodates interchangeable, single-use cells that guarantee sterility and streamline the start of the bioprocess.

The Hexascreen units offer a beneficial change to the medium, monitoring and control features of similar to laboratory reactors. These features allow information to be collected on all major culture variables, such as temperature, dissolved oxygen/oxygen consumption, pH, optical density and spectrometry in the visible range, while at the same time automatically monitoring growth (absorbance) and metabolism (indirectly from acidification/oxygen consumption).
