Telstar will participate at the 27th Hospital Engineering Seminar, to be held in Santiago de Compostela (Spain) from October 14 to 16, 2009. This conference will include a series of talks on engineering and market innovations in this field.
As a specialist in infection prevention, Telstar has developed vertical laminar flow technology for use in operating rooms, minimizing the risk of post-operatory infection and contributing to the safety and prevention criteria recommended by the various European regulations in force.
Telstar designs and develops equipment customized to the needs of each medical centre, adding innovations in line with market trends in the field of healthcare safety. Telstar's active participation in various specialist forums in the healthcare industry, such as the Unión Catalana de Hospitales (Catalan Federation of Hospitals) and the AENOR Environmental Quality Task Force, helps increase its knowledge of developments in the healthcare market in the fields of safety and prevention in medical centers.
Spain is currently anticipating future European healthcare safety regulations to be passed. According to figures from the Spanish Ministry of Health and Consumption, Spain has around 780 hospitals and almost 4000 operating rooms, with around four million operations performed each year.
Air filtering and ventilation systems are simple measures which minimize the presence of microorganisms in closed spaces such as operating rooms. The use of air conditioners providing constant circulation of suitably treated air is essential to obtain the required air quality in enclosed areas. Laminar flow systems optimize microorganism purging due to the "piston effect" (in which incoming clean air "pushes" contaminated air from the room). Correct ventilation is an essential component. It must guarantee at least 20 air changes per hour, or 2500 m3/h, according to UNE standard 100713.
With a 30% market share in Central and Northern Europe, Telstar is currently a leading supplier of operating room design and installation using laminar flow technology.
