Within the framework of the EXPOQUIMIA, held between the 20 and 24 October 2008, in Barcelona, Telstar presented new equipment for laboratories and the pharmaceutical industry in technologies of containment, water generation for injectables and freeze-drying processes, as well as a new system for filling vials using a peristaltic pump, of its representative Watson Marlow Flexicon.

Pharmaceutical Industry

More precisely, at Expoquimia Telstar presented, for the first time in Spain, the TELSTAR ACE CONTAINMENT ISOLATOR, which the company develops at its United Kingdom centre. This isolator, which prevents the contact with hazardous agents and offers absolute safety in the handling of chemical products with effective systems for containing and controlling levels of up to nanograms per m3, is mainly aimed at the pharmaceutical industry.  With the renowned prestige of the ACE brand, present in the United Kingdom and the United States as a manufacturer of this type of equipment, Telstar is developing the campaign to market this product worldwide.

Outstanding is also the presentation of the CS 4-1250 DISTILLER. Manufactured by Telstar, this distiller is designed to produce superior water quality for injectables. It contributes towards energy efficiency in water production for the pharmaceutical industry, thanks to its main feature of multi-effect generation.

Telstar also presented, at Expoquimica, its star freeze-drying equipment for research and development applications and developed LYOBETA 15, adapted for the first time to the needs of the pharmaceutical industry.  LyoBeta 15 makes it possible to develop prescriptions that can easily be exported to production equipment, or carry out improvements in the freeze-drying cycle directed at the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry.  With stainless-steel finishes, this product can be installed in a sterile environment, is cleaner and perfectly meets the needs of the pharmaceutical industry.

Lastly, Telstar presented the FLEXICON FPC50, an on-line automatic filling, capping and encapsulation system.   With a compact design, this system is precise and makes it possible to handle up to 25 units per minute, without cross-contamination and with universal formats and components that reduce costs.

Laboratory

For the laboratory market, Telstar presented LYOQUEST, the state-of-the-art laboratory freeze-drier capable of making recipes with temperature and vacuum control. The device is the perfect solution for research and development laboratories due to its versatility and features.

For the first time, Telstar included in its catalogue a biological safety cabinet, specially designed to prepare cytostatics that allows two people to work together simultaneously. The CYTOULTRA 6 cabinet incorporates a patented sealing closing system that guarantees maximum safety.  A digital display, with incorporated screen, shows the main parameters of the cabinet and allows for continuous monitoring of filter status, thus optimizing their operation.

Likewise, Telstar also presented at Expoquimia the CLEAN AIR class III cabinet, a class III biological safety cabinet that provides maximum safety for the user, the product and the environment.  This is a completely airtight cabinet whose work area is kept at negative pressure and which is accessed using inlet gloves.  This cabinet is especially designed to work with biological products of level risks 1, 2, 3, and 4.

The chemical sector in Spain

Expoquimia, one of the most important meeting points, in Spain, for applied chemistry manufacturers and suppliers, was held in conjunction with Eurosurfas and Equiplast. It counted with the participation of more than one thousand exhibitors and occupied a total area of approximately 65,500 m2 in the Gran Via de Fira grounds, in Barcelona

According to statistics provided by entity that organized this event, at present the Spanish Chemical sector is composed of more than 3,600 companies, invoicing approximately 50,000 million Euros a year, which represents 10% of the national Gross Industrial Product. According to recent statistics, Spanish chemical companies employ, directly or indirectly, more than 500,000 persons and the sector exports 50% of its production. Each year, Spain receives approximately 2,000 million Euros from international sales of products from the chemical sector.
